On February 2nd, 2014, in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Sébastien Sasseville undertook a run across Canada: a 7,200 kilometer itinerary, the equivalent of 170 marathons. This adventure culminated 9 months later in Vancouver, on November 14, on World Diabetes Day.
At the rate of 5 or 6 marathons a week, all followed by an ice bath, with an overloaded media schedule, over 40 public events, and the shooting of a documentary, the crossing was a hectic race. One step at a time, Sébastien showed that it is possible to go very far when you do a little bit every day.
The purpose of this run across Canada was to inspire, educate and raise awareness of all those living with diabetes and to convince them that they can make their dreams come true. The universal values of overachievement promoted by Sébastien’s approach also inspired thousands of Canadians. The journey was also filled with lessons on leadership, persistence and collaboration which Sebastien now shares with the corporate sector.
